Here at the Rural Derbyshire SSP we run a wide range of programmes to support primary schools in the delivery of high quality PE & Sport. By buying into our annual SSP offer schools have the opportunity to access the vast majority of our programmes at no extra cost. You can find all of our programmes below with a little bit about each one.
Bikeability (some FREE places for SSP Affiliated Schools)
Balanceability (FREE for SSP Affiliated Infant Schools)
Balanceability is the perfect starting point in a child’s journey in learning to ride a bike! This programme is aimed at reception aged children, providing them with their first taste of mobile independence; through fun games it focuses on establishing fundamental and secure balance which is vital in learning to ride a bicycle. Change 4 Life Champions Conference (FREE for SSP Affiliated Schools)
Change 4 Life is a national campaign to tackle the causes of obesity. At our annual C4L Champions conference four of your year 5 students will receive specialist training in how to be a C4L champion whilst a member of your staff receives training on how to support your champions. Once your champions have received their training, they will be tasked with the responsibility of running a C4L club in their schools. They should target their club at the least active children to ensure that they are achieving the CMO guidelines of 60 active minutes per day.
Individual Pentathlons (FREE for SSP Affiliated Schools)
We currently run individual pentathlons for years 3, 4, 5 & 6. The pentathlons take place after school at a local secondary school, thus enabling mass participation. The pentathlons is made up of 6 different events (only the top 5 scores count towards your overall score): standing long jump, standing triple jump, speed bounce, shuttle run, balance test and chest push. Once we have collated all the scores on our Sportshall Athletics database we are able to email the children’s results to the parents and/or schools.
Midday Supervisor Training (FREE for SSP Affiliated Schools)
Midday Supervisor Training is the perfect opportunity for you to up skill your midday workforce. At each training session we introduce as many new and exciting lunchtime games and activities that encourage your students to stay active throughout their lunch break. We have received exceptional feedback over the past few years from the midday supervisors attending our courses.
SSOC Training & School Games Mark support (FREE for SSP Affiliated Schools)
Our SSOC training ensures that your school sports organiser crew know the ins and outs of the school games. They will be trained on how to lead level 1 intra school sports activities as well as learning about the more creative tasks that they can take ownership of in the school such as: keeping the PE noticeboard updated, writing exciting match reports and blogging.
Mini Leader Training (£150 for an afternoon)
Mini Leader Training provides a fantastic opportunity for you to supply leadership opportunities to your students. We tend to work with a year 6 class who will receive training on what makes the best leaders and how to effectively plan & deliver a fun-filled session for the rest of your students to take part in. The follow up session will provide a chance for our tutors to observe your Mini Leaders in action as well as fielding any questions that your students may have whilst offering any feedback regarding their observation. Upon completion all children will be awarded with a Mini Leader certificate to mark their achievement.
