RDSSP OPEN Yr 5/6 Basketball Competition

On Thursday 4th February ten teams entered this extremely fun, fast paced, thrilling competition knowing there could be only one winner. The teams were placed into two separate pools and had to battle it out with schools from across the dales with the winners and runners up being entered into the semi final!

The heat was on as Osmaston Bulls had to take on Osmaston Owls in the first Semi Final match. Osmaston Owls started the match quick and had the clear height advantage over their opponents, this however didn’t stop the Osmaston Bulls getting on the scoreboard as the game ended 10-2 to the Osmaston Owls.

In the second semi final match a strong South Darley Swifts team took on the Longstone Hurricanes who had performed extremely well in their pool. Both teams had both been extremely clinical on the attack and it was no surprise when this game was the same. Unfortunately for the South Darley Swifts the Longstone Hurricanes just had the edge in the game scoring 10 points to South Darley’s 4.

Following the Semi Final matches it was now time for the 3rd place play off between the Osmaston Owls and the South Darley Swifts. This game came down to the strong defences of both teams with the South Darley Swifts being limited to only 4 points by an impressive Owls defense, but as luck would have it for the Swifts their defence was just that little bit better and manage to keep the Osmaston Owls Offence at bay for the whole match. The Game ended 4-0 to the South Darley Swifts in a close fought match.

Osmaston Owls vs Longstone Hurricanes, 1st in Pool 1 vs 1st in Pool 2, the final game to decide this years champions. Leading into the game Osmaston’s offense had proven impossible to stop with them scoring at least 10 points in a match and having a record high 28 points in a single match. It was Longstone’s defence that had impressed throughout the pool matches only letting in 4 points in a total playing time of 28 minutes! It was the Osmaston Owls to start the fastest as they managed to score the first points of this years finals however they couldn’t score as freely as they had been use to as the Longstone defence found their feet again managing to limit the Owls to 6 points. The Longstone Hurricanes however fell short on their attack as they were held to 1 point by an impressive Owls defence.

On top of our winners trophy we also had a trophy for the team that showed the most passion which was awarded to All Saints Juniors after their inspired support from their bench who never lost their voice to shout on their fellow teammates.
