Thumbs up to more PE in Turnditch

Pupils at Turnditch C of E Primary School are reaping the benefits of additional PE sessions thanks to the Rural Derbyshire School Sport Partnership (RDSSP).

The 30 minute lessons, organised by RDSSP Young Sports Apprentice, James Bates, aim to improve core skills including throwing and catching, balance, control, agility, accuracy, hand eye coordination and overall fitness.

Youngsters in years three and four have also had to use their imagination by creating new games with only set pieces of equipment.

17 year old James said: “Children have made massive improvements in a short period of time, picking up and improving core PE skills.”

“Attitudes towards winning and losing have improved during the sessions. I have also noticed how the children’s self-confidence and ability to communicate effectively with each other when describing games have both grown.”

Head Teacher, John Bolton said: “James’ input is delivered sensitively and professionally and has already begun to demonstrate impact. The children he works with have developed in key areas of hand eye co-ordination, agility, balance and overall fitness.”
